The strength of the connected corridor

CONNECTED businesses, universities and government is the power of the Oxford-MK-Cambridge Growth Corridor, was a key message from SEMLEP’s AGM reception event in November.

Joined by guest speakers, Professor Sir Peter Gregson FREng, Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor at Cranfield University; Rachel Mallows, Managing Director at The Mallows Company and Roz Bird, Commercial Director at Silverstone Park, over 100 guests from local businesses and communities came together to talk about the innovation and technology, distinct capabilities and economic growth driven by increasingly strong collaboration between clusters in the SEMLEP area.

At the event at Wyboston Lakes, Bedfordshire, Chair Dr Ann Limb CBE DL reflected on 2018 as ‘a year that has reinforced our organisation’s foundations, put our partnership at the forefront of major national growth agendas and, set us up for an even stronger future’.

During the AGM, Ann thanked a number of board members who have resigned from their SEMLEP role this year – Cllr Heather Smith, Cllr Neil Blake, Alex Burns, Stephen Davies, Peter Horrocks, Martin Sutherland and Tom Wells – for their commitment to the partnership. Tom was presented, in SEMLEP tradition, with an engraved bowl in recognition of his service on the board.

The AGM confirmed four appointments to the SEMLEP Board for 2018, Dr Julie Mills, Cllr Martin Griffiths, Cllr Barry Wood and Professor Sir Peter Gregson.

At the event, SEMLEP launched their annual review 2018 highlights brochure, that details the LEP’s investments in 2017/18 and outlines key achievements in its work to grow businesses, people and places for the future prosperity of our local communities and businesses.

The South East Midlands LEP is a partnership between business, academia and civic leaders. SEMLEP has a key role in deciding economic growth priorities and steering investments for the future growth and prosperity for the South East Midlands.
