Print offers a marketing boost

THE demand for printed catalogues and direct mail pieces is on the rise, according to Northampton’s leading printer, Belmont Press, which produces over five million catalogues a year. “Print is an essential part of the marketing mix, and in an increasingly digital age, it is still one of the key elements for engaging the customer.

Print enhances the effectiveness of digital communications by driving website visits to increase sales,” said Belmont Press Commercial Director, Owen Thomas.

This is demonstrated by The Direct Marketing Association’s survey of 1200 consumers, published in 2013, which shows that:

* nearly 70 per cent of people see physical print as more trustworthy than electronic alternatives
* twice as many people respond immediately to printed direct mail than to email
* more consumers visit a web site as a result of a printed mail item than they do from a search engine

In addition, research has shown that printed marketing materials are more effective at engaging the consumer than digital communications. They produce a stronger emotional response in the brain and a more ‘real’ experience.

This is according to research by Millward Brown: Understanding Direct Mail with Neuroscience (2009). Belmont Press works with organisations of all sizes throughout the UK, from small businesses through to universities, government departments and household names.

They have been printing the Haddonstone catalogue since 2012, and Marketing Director, Simon Scott, says the decision to choose Belmont Press was based on the key factors of price, quality and service. He commented: “Belmont Press provides a seamless service. The attention to detail is good and they always do what they say they will do. They’re also flexible and accommodating when our schedules change.”
