Continuing to build links with business

THIS has been a very successful year at Moulton College with 91 per cent of 16 to 18 year old students achieving their vocational qualification, which is six per cent above the national average. 90 per cent of leavers have gone on to further studies or into employment, this is a great success and reflects one of the college’s core values which is to develop the employability of students.

Over the past 12 months, Moulton College has used its capital investment to improve the estate and facilities, one of which is the new UK Athletics Standard Track and associated facilities which have been built in partnership with Northampton Borough Council, and the Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club. The running track further broadens the college’s sport academies offering with the introduction of athletics and triathlon academies.

This year has also seen a record number of new apprenticeship enrolments at Moulton College across construction, land-based and animal welfare frameworks. There is currently high demand across all construction trades with employers using the apprenticeship scheme to train the next generation of construction workers.

Recruitment to technical, professional and higher level construction apprenticeships is particularly strong. These apprenticeships offer an exciting alternative to the traditional full-time study options, with students able to gain invaluable work experience while completing their qualifications.

The higher construction apprenticeship at Moulton College has only been running for three years and the first group of learners that enrolled in 2013 are now completing their move into permanent employment, often having achieved promotion as a result of their apprenticeship.

Moulton College prides itself on matching students with employers that can provide the best possible foundation to kick-start their career, many successful past students have come back to recruit new apprentices to help grow their businesses.

In the upcoming year, Moulton College aims to continue building links with employers to strengthen their workforce. Recruiting fresh skilled talent can provide many benefits for business and grants are available to support the recruitment and training of apprentices.
