Charity dinner proves a hit

THE Kettering Rotary Charity Dinner, held in March, raised over £10,000 for local charities as over 330 Rotarians and guests packed into Wicksteed Park Pavilion to be entertained by the voice of rugby, Ian Robertson and top comedian Adger Brown.

The event is organised by Kettering and Kettering Huxloe Rotary Clubs and has been taking place since 1974, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds. Once again it proved to be a great night out for all that attended.

Past speakers have included Sir Bobby Charlton, Dennis Law, Dennis Taylor, Bill Beaumont, John Conteh, Phil Bennett and Martin Johnson.

This year Ian Robertson, who, after 47 years chatting away on the BBC, completed his last rugby commentary a few months ago when England played Australia at Twickenham, spoke about his career both on and off the pitch.

Edward Lamb, President of Kettering Huxloe Rotary, said: “Once again the Charity Dinner has been supported enthusiastically by over 300 guest who have helped us to raise a very impressive total”.

Ken Dale, President of Kettering Rotary added: “All the money raised at the event will be used to support local causes. It’s always a fantastic night out and we look forward to welcoming people to the 2020 event on Thursday 19 March.
