Building a career for himself

BARRATT Homes Northampton has welcomed an apprentice carpenter to its Lyveden Fields development in Corby to help him develop his skills and knowledge of the trade.

James Anderson has joined the leading developer at the Livingstone Road development as he looks to begin his career in carpentry and joinery.

Originally from Kettering, 18-year-old James is studying at Stephenson College in Coalville on the NVQ Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery course on block release.

James said: “I was attracted to Barratt Homes due to their award-winning apprenticeship programme which sets it apart from what other housebuilders are able to offer.

“I believe the apprenticeship will provide me with the right training to become a fully qualified carpenter in the future.”

James works at the development for two weeks every two months and is enjoying shadowing carpenters and being able to get stuck in.

He added: “I really enjoy being on site and learning new skills while contributing to the construction of homes.

“The course is really exciting and I hope to profess on to the advanced carpentry apprenticeship, eventually being a fully qualified carpenter.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We are delighted to welcome James to the team and wish him the best of luck in his career with us.

“As a leading housebuilder in Northamptonshire and surrounding areas, we pride ourselves on not only providing a first-class service for our customers, but also ensuring we look after our staff and provide opportunities to progress within the company and achieve their ambitions.”
