Keeping it in the family

SCOTTS of Thrapston, a leading manufacturer of bespoke timber products will be celebrating their centenary in just three years time. Scotts is a family business, with an impressive portfolio, and continues to be run by the founder’s grandson and great-grandson, David and James Scott.

David Scott, Chairman of Scotts of Thrapston and James’ father, said: “I am delighted to have recently appointed James as managing director. He knows our business inside out and has a great skill set, which equips him well for his new role.

“Our business has gone from strength to strength over the years and we have every faith that this will continue under James’ excellent leadership.

“It’s an exciting time for everyone at Scotts of Thrapston. The future is looking bright as a fourth generation family member takes up a primary role and we celebrate our centennial anniversary in 2020.”

The family-run business prides itself on its renowned reputation for its high-quality timber products.

Summerhouses which capture the imagination of visitors to the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows and bespoke stable yards for all areas of the equestrian world, are just a small part of the firm’s historic track record.

Roof trusses and engineered flooring, supplied to leading national housebuilders, are another key part of the company’s ongoing success. In addition, Scotts has an enviable reputation for supplying bespoke joinery, pavilions, education and community buildings.

Boasting relationships with highly esteemed organisations such as the Royal Horticultural Society; Lord’s, the Home of Cricket; and The National Trust, Scotts has developed an inspiring and extensive product range over the years.

James Scott said: “Business today is all about partnerships. We believe in working with each customer and meeting each of their needs.”

“It means that from our base in the heart of East Northamptonshire the company works with private and corporate clients from across the world.”

James, who is named after his great grandfather and the founder of Scotts, said: “I’m looking forward to overseeing the next chapter of our successful family business.

“We are in the process of refurbishing our head office and have several upcoming projects that we expect to be a real success. The business is in a great position and I’m certain that I will be able to continue the hard work and traditional values that my family and our incredible employees have worked hard to uphold for so many years.”

The skilled workforce has grown over the decades and is now at more than 100. Agricultural appliances and small buildings for poultry and livestock were some of the first products created by the company. The business continues today with the company’s proud tradition of quality and innovation.

David said: “We are very proud to be a part of the ongoing growth and success of the Northamptonshire business community.”
