RYAN Metcalfe, who works in the Accounts Department at market-leading workshop equipment supplier GEMCO, recently made the shortlist for the AAT Apprentice of the Year at the awarding body’s national training awards.

Ryan was nominated by his training provider at Starting Off for his dedication to his studies and his really positive attitude. Ryan has become the first student at Starting Off to achieve the AAT Level 4 Business Skills Diploma, a qualification which forms part of the Higher Level Apprenticeship in Accounting.

As well as achieving the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting, Ryan has also demonstrated a high level of business skills, including developing commercial awareness and managing project finances.

The Business Skills Diploma has helped Ryan relate his AAT studies to his workplace and become a more valued member of the finance team at GEMCO.

Ryan’s manager Vim Savani said: “Ryan has settled in very well at GEMCO and is a now a key member of our team. Ryan always has a positive, can do attitude and is willing and keen to learn new tasks.

“He has very good attention to detail and has produced some excellent reports and set up reporting and monitoring procedures which have contributed positively to the company.”

GEMCO are a keen supporter of the apprenticeship programme and have employed seven trainees in recent years across their business.
