Armed forces covenant signed

KNIGHTS of Old Group has signed the Armed Forces Covenant to show its support for employees who serve with the armed forces.

An event was held on 1 February at Knights of Old’s Head Office in Kettering. On behalf of the company, the covenant was signed by Nick Bithell, Human Resources Director, and on behalf of Defence by Lt Col John Hanson, the Commanding Officer of the Army’s 103 Bn REME. Knights of Old currently employs numerous reservist and ex-regular members of the armed forces who work as drivers and packers, organising and transporting goods to locations in the UK and further afield.

The Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director in the East Midlands, John Wilson, attended the signing. He said: “Knights of Old are a large commercial company who understand that those who serve or have previously served in the military have a variety of skills and attributes, developed through military training, that are of value to their business. Skills such as leading a team, problem solving and having the ability to drive a variety of vehicles are all recognised as positive qualities by Knights of Old.

“The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly. I look forward to developing our relationship with Knights of Old.”

Over 2000 public and private sector organisations have signed the Armed Forces Covenant across the UK and many of them are in Northamptonshire.

Commenting on why the company wanted to pledge their support to members of the armed forces community who are employed by Knights of Old, Nick Bithell said: “We believe that it is important to support the fantastic work that our armed forces do. As such we are fully committed to ensure that we provide a framework whereby we can support those who continue to serve our great nation. This support extends to veterans, service families and their dependents.”
