Manufacturing: ‘Integrated approach is essential for a successful digital transformation’

HIGH-PERFORMANCE polymer manufacturer igus UK welcomed guests for a tour of its factory in Northampton and an insight into its manufacturing technology to celebrate National Manufacturing Day.

The company hosted the event with IT company Paradise Computing. Guests took a guided tour of the Factory on Brackmills Industrial Estate in Northampton and heard detailed descriptions of the advanced machinery and robotics employed in the manufacture of igus UK’s motion plastics and cables.

The tour was designed to be an immersive experience, going beyond just showing people what igus does, said igus UK’s managing director Matthew Aldridge. Visitors were able to interact and understand the real-world applications of the technologies.

Igus has been developing and producing motion plastics – innovative products made from lubrication-free plastics – since 1964. These include energy chains, cables, plain bearings, lead screw technology, robots and intelligent sensors designed to help igus UK’s customers  to improve their technology and reduce costs.

IT support and services provider Paradise Computing, also based in Northampton, has been collaborating with igus UK at Brackmills to promote digital transformation in manufacturing.

Sales director Alex Hamp said: “Adopting new technologies is not just about installing the latest software or machinery. It is about having a holistic technology view that harmonises every aspect of your operation, from robotics to ERP systems.

“This integrated approach is essential for a successful digital transformation, enabling companies to not just compete but to excel in today’s complex manufacturing landscape. Our collaborations exemplify how this broad perspective can drive innovation and efficiency across sectors.”

The event attracted delegates including engineers, business owners, industry experts and consultants.

“The tour provided an unparalleled opportunity for knowledge sharing and hands-on experience,” said Paradise Computing’s marketing manager Cassandra Campbell. “It is all about bridging the gap between different sectors and showcasing how technology can solve real-world manufacturing challenges. Collaboration is the cornerstone of innovation and our partnerships are testament to this philosophy.

“Through the factory tour, we were thrilled to showcase the mechanics of igus’ motion plastics and cables but also their RBTX Low Cost Robotics platform. We believe that understanding these technologies is key to realising the full scope of digital transformation. As we move forward, we’re eager to continue working closely with companies like igus and the broader Northamptonshire community to unlock the limitless potential of modern manufacturing.”

The igus UK event marking National Manufacturing Day is one of a series of events organised by Paradise Computing to focus on education, innovation and collaboration. The next is a tour of the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry on November 8, National STEM Day.

“Working together brings a richer landscape for innovation,” Ms Campbell said. “Especially in Northamptonshire, where we have such a robust and diverse range of industries, the importance of fostering local ties cannot be overstated.”
