WHEN, in 2040 or thereabouts, there are some very talented women at the top of the business world, it could all have started at Northampton High School.

Last term Year 3 girls at the school, under the guidance of their teacher, Miss Brandon-Jones, were making money.  Not for themselves, but for a range of charities, and not by being sponsored, but by selling things they made in their after school club.

The quality of goods and presentation turned coasters, chutney and friendship bracelets into best sellers.

The scheme was a learning process throughout with the girls sourcing and costing ingredients or materials, selling prices, profit margins, marketing, sales techniques, teamwork and effort – all contributing to a basic understanding of what makes a business successful.

At the first morning’s sale the girls were truly amazed when everything they had made sold out in minutes.

All the girls’ hard work and enthusiasm has benefited their chosen charities by well over £400. The Mini Money Makers have certainly shown that the future of women in business looks bright.
