Carer reaches awards final

HELEN Jamieson from Home Instead Senior Care in East Northants is a finalist in Home Instead Senior Care’s CAREGiver of the Year Awards. The awards are held each year and recognise and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work, throughout the UK.

Helen has been nominated as a finalist in the National CAREGiver of the Year Award and will learn if she is a winner at a glitzy awards evening being held at Liverpool Echo on 9 November, with the awards being presented by Lori Hogan Founder of Home Instead Senior Care.

Helen was nominated by her manager, Lauren, who has admired her hard work and dedication over the last couple of years.

She is particularly proud of the way in which Helen has cared for a lovely couple in their late 90s. Last month it was their 70th wedding anniversary and Helen personally arranged a surprise gathering on the morning of their anniversary. Helen had arranged for a beautiful cake to be made, flowers, balloons and presents for the couple. They were both so overwhelmed and delighted with what Helen had done for them and it was a wonderful sight to witness.

Helen also went to visit her son in India this year and came home with little presents for all her clients. One client has a passion for birds and Helen brought him back three little paper birds, he loved them dearly and gave them all names. For another client, who is currently bed bound and often becomes tearful and anxious, Helen bought a model elephant whom she immediately named Ellie and will often say “Ellie looks after me”.

Helen doesn’t just think about the clients but also about their family members; Helen has arranged for her son to bring home some silk from India for the wife of one of her clients so she can make a canopy for her bed. The client’s wife is going through a tough time herself at the moment and this has really made a difference to the client knowing that his wife has been cheered up and is excited for her up and coming project.

Commenting on her nomination, Helen said she was ‘thrilled to have been nominated and doesn’t look at it as a job as long as she makes a difference’.

Speaking about Helen, owner of Home Instead East Northants Mark Darnell, said: “It is a real honour to make it to the finals of these prestigious awards which celebrate excellence in the care sector. I am very proud of Helen, who has received nothing but high praise from clients and CAREGivers alike. We all have our fingers crossed for 9 November.”
