MANY people spend longer researching their holiday destinations than they do evaluating their new job offer or their prospective employer.
For others, a job isn’t just a job – it’s their career. It’s where we all spend most of our time and, if we’re lucky, it’s our passion. So, it makes sense to objectively evaluate any job offers that we receive, as well as fully understanding the values and culture of our potential new employer. We have found this is becoming more and more the case as good candidates are hard to find in this current economic climate.
Generally, within the finance and IT sectors people are staying put in their current job and will only move for more interesting step-up roles or the next new technology. They are becoming very specific around what they will move for. This doesn’t always mean an offer of significantly more money, but around incentives such as, holiday entitlement, bonus, car – or, the total package that’s on offer? Other things attractive to potential employees are a better work/life balance and flexible working. Sometimes it’s as simple as a role closer to home or an easier commute.
Given this, it’s crucial that businesses focus more on what’s important to the candidate, and that candidates fully understand the potential employer’s business purpose and values.
