A group of business leaders have thrown their suits and their fear to one side to raise money for a Northamptonshire charity.

Five businessmen from the county have abseiled down the Northampton Lift Tower to raise over £1,000 for Alfe’s Cause – a charity that was set up in 2010 after Alfe went into remission from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and wanted to help other children going through a similar situation to his own experience.

Ashley Riley from Ashley Riley Communications, Lee Ives from Mr. Electric, Duncan Webster from 1pcs, Glen Thomason from Astute Insurance and Ashley Dunkley from Cobley Desbrough abseiled down the 418 feet tower watched by a crowd of well-wishers in St. James.

“It is fair to say that most of us were pretty scared in the build up to the descent,” said Ashley Riley, Managing Director of Ashley Riley Communications. “We came down in pairs, some quicker than others, and as well as being a great experience it was an opportunity to raise much needed funds for Alfe’s Cause – a fantastic charity in our town.”

Alfe and his mum attended a recent BNI meeting in Northampton to receive a cheque for over £1,000 that will be used to send a group of children with cancer from the county to a number of activities and events.

“We are so grateful to everyone that sponsored us,” said Lee Ives from Mr. Electric, one of Northampton’s leading electricians. “People were very generous and when you are at the top of the tower looking down it was the thoughts of all that support and the difference it will make that got us over the edge.”
