Burnett continued: ‘’ This industry employs 2.2 million people, contributing £74.5 Billion. We have a huge impact on the lives of everyone in Britain and sometimes that positive contribution is overlooked. ‘National Lorry Week’ will provide the opportunity to reach out to those concerned and highlight our value’’.

The Road Haulage association represents haulage companies that between them operate approximately 100,000 heavy goods vehicles across the U.K. One of those members is Mick George Ltd who now operates a fleet of in excess of 240 HGV within the region on a daily basis.

Mick George Ltd. has planned a host of events to support the initiative, providing members of the public the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the transport industry. Recently the brand new Concrete Barrel Truck was present at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre where shoppers were provided with a free demonstration of the Lorry and its safety features as well as speaking with experienced drivers.

In addition, Mick George Ltd will be working alongside a number of schools within the local community in the New Year to provide educational and practical lessons to children on road safety issues.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd. stated: ‘’Transport in its various forms is critical to our business and the numerous services we provide. We invest significant amounts of money in our fleet and have recently launched our own ‘Driver Academy’ to supplement this provision’’.

Stump continued: ‘’ Schemes such as National Lorry Week go along way to raise the profile of the industry, influence perception and ensure adequate recognition is received. The industry is currently suffering a driver shortage, so what better way to showcase a great career prospect’’.
