A NORTHAMPTON-based award winning PR and marketing company has told a business audience in the county that firms can learn a great deal from the world’s best rugby players.

As the 2015 Rugby World Cup gets under way, bringing together the best 20 teams on the earth, Ashley Riley from Ashley Riley Communications explained to invited guests at Northampton Golf Club that the fundamentals of winning the Webb Ellis Cup are the same as winning in business.

“The Rugby World Cup is a wonderful occasion, bringing together, in my view, some of the greatest athletes in the world,” said Ashley, whose company won a national campaign award at the end of 2014, “While we watch, cheer, shout and maybe even cry over the next month or so there are some great parallels we can take from what we see on the pitch into our firms – however big or small they are.

“Sir Clive Woodward, who coached England to World Cup success in 2003, talks about having a recipe for success and it is one that business should grasp hold off when looking to promote what it does and how it does it.

“That recipe means you don’t have to be Richard Branson, Alan Sugar or Mark Zuckerberg to be successful. It does mean though that if you the right principles in place your business will grow and it will succeed.

“It is all about knowledge and knowing what you do with it.”

“Any business that is successful knows how to build, capture and share its knowledge in the same as any World Cup winning team does. It is what led Martin Johnson and England to victory in Sydney all those years ago and it’s what should lead your business in the coming years.”
