Rolling out safety measures

WHILE attacks on schools are thankfully rare, most now have procedures in place to ensure that the right actions are taken, and everyone knows what to do, should there be an incident.

And a Northampton firm is proving that the simple solutions are often the best by ensuring school clients are fitted with easy-to-operate roller blinds that can be lowered quickly and easily.

Saxon Blinds is finding its services increasingly in demand by schools that are introducing lockdown procedures. Although attacks are rare in the UK, many schools feel it is preferable to have measures in place just in case they come under threat from unwanted intruders.

Mark Grainger, Managing Director of Saxon Blinds, said: “It’s something we are being asked about more and more. Schools are just taking sensible precautions and have been advised that, in the event of an incident occurring, it is sensible to pull the blinds down in the classroom. This both protects the children from being seen, and also prevents them from seeing anything that might potentially upset them.

“We have all kinds of blinds systems available, but for those schools tightening their security procedures, a simple roller blind is best. Operated on a chain system, it’s easy for an adult or a child, and doesn’t involve having to find a handle or a remote control unit when time is of the essence.”

Because of the way they are manufactured – at the firm’s factory in Magee Street in Northampton – Saxon Blinds’ roller blinds are available in extended widths, anything up to four metres wide, so suitable for most classroom and school building uses.

“A lot of schools are taking security very seriously now, and we’ve been busy fitting easy-to-operate blinds all over the UK, and we’re happy to go in and discuss our products with any school that is looking at its lockdown procedures,” added Mark.

Saxon Blinds produces a complete range, offering choice, flexibility and competitive pricing, as well as a five-year guarantee on all commercial blinds. The company also provides shutters and awnings. All Saxon Blinds staff are CRB checked and part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.
