THERE are definite signs that the economy is on the upturn – borne out by accountancy practice Cottons Chartered Accountants setting up a dedicated department to deal with an increased workload.

In the corporate finance sector, which focuses on mergers and acquisitions and helping clients identify new opportunities to develop their businesses, both at home and abroad, Cottons has seen a material increase in the demand for its services.

Although the practice, which has offices in Northampton and Daventry, has provided corporate finance services for some time, it has appointed partner Guy Pain to head up a new dedicated service.

He will be working with Corporate Finance Manager James Melvin to provide clients with the expertise they need, as well as access to an extensive network of contacts offering acquisition and disposal opportunities.

Guy Pain said: “After a quieter period in late 2012 and early 2013 we have seen the volumes of corporate finance work increase dramatically during the past 12 months. With economic conditions now looking extremely favourable and with easier access to finance, the number of transactional deals has significantly increased. We have seen this increase both internally within our own client base as well as from other external referrals.

“Our focus has always been on serving the owner managed business sector by providing highly professional and cost effective specialist corporate finance services. However as owner managers look to exploit new markets and opportunities, and as overseas businesses are increasingly looking at the UK as an excellent business location, we are involved in ever increasing numbers of overseas transactions.”

Cottons corporate finance team’s services include business acquisitions, succession planning and disposals, finance raising, strategic planning with the preparation of business plans and financial forecasts, business valuations for acquisition, disposal or fiscal purposes, and financial due diligence and investigations work.
