WITH projects in Northampton, the North East and Surrey in the pipeline and ongoing care home, university and commercial contracts across the UK, growth at Fusion Building Systems has doubled over the past year and is expected to double again next year.

The foundation of the firm’s success is its structurally efficient light gauge steel insulated panels that offer one of the world’s most sustainable and cost-effective building solutions for low and medium-rise structures up to 10 storeys.

As the construction industry begins to recover from a difficult past few years, Fusion Building Systems has found that its ability to manufacture and supply panels as well as carry out the construction has played no small part in its success.

Director Mike Fairey said: “There’s a definite skills shortage in the construction industry and often a shortage of materials such as bricks and blocks, due to the downturn of the past few years and the lack of availability. We don’t have that problem because we manufacture the materials, so we can control our own timescales and deliver as and when clients require.

“The care home sector is particularly strong and we’ve moved into new areas, such as the North East, and there’s a major Northampton project in the pipeline that we are delighted with as we’ve always aimed to do more work locally. We use local suppliers and support services as much as we can, and we employ around 70 people from the local area, including our first apprentices, but we would like to actually carry out more work locally, too.”

As well as the new apprentices, Fusion Building Systems has recently taken on a number of key staff, including Head of Technical Design Mark Jowett, Factory Manager Tony Young, Project Manager Joe Lewis and Marketing Assistant Ami Jackson.

“We are growing and that’s great news, we’ve been in Northampton for four years now and considering we started here from scratch, we’re proud of what we have achieved and the success we’ve had,” added Mike.
