NEIL Mason Associates has been appointed as the project manager for building improvements to a medical practice in Northampton.  The project, which will see the construction of two new extensions to each side of the existing pharmacy and dentist, is due to start on site next month. Tony Young, Neil Mason Associates’ Building Surveyor, is working with the architect and the structural engineer to ensure the extension will meet the needs of the practice whilst remaining sympathetic to the original building and current surroundings. Close communication with the two current tenants, Lloyds Pharmacy and The Dental Suite, has ensured the new buildings will also meet their needs and plans are now in place to minimise any disruption as both businesses will continue operate as usual while the contractors are on site. Tony is also currently working on a large project management job for a new-build medical centre in Cambridgeshire and undertaking a series of Planned Maintenance Surveys for a large GP practice which is in the process of merging with several other practices to give visibility of the state of its properties and the financial impact over the next five years. On the consultancy side, the firm is working on several large ongoing projects including advising a client on the creation of a large student accommodation development; a complex project which will involve a planning application for change of use. The property management team is currently working with an in-house client to assess compliance with the changes to EPCs which will come into force in April 2018. The client holds a development of small business units which will be affected by the change in legislation. The unit is currently being refurbished and by investigating the environmental changes needed now, the client has a clear view of works needed and the associated costs over the coming months.
