Founded in 1959 by the late Bill Starcevic, the company is now run by Bill’s sons Tom and Andrey, with a workforce of 24. It manufactures, designs and distributes a comprehensive range of standard and specialist vacuum cleaners including machines covered by the European ATEX directive, suitable for picking up potentially explosive and conductive dusts in a zoned environment, Type H vacuum cleaners for hazardous dusts, as well as the standard range of both dry and wet and dry ranges for use in many varied applications and industries.
Building a business in and around Northamptonshire, calling on the expertise of other local companies in sub-contracting parts of the manufacturing process, Kerstar rapidly moved from just one model of machine to a large portfolio of products.
Its first export order came in 1972 from a German customer and this side of the business spread quickly into France, Belgium, Holland and Spain. Today, Kerstar also has customers in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as throughout east and west Europe.
In addition to the manufacturing side of the business, Kerstar has a service department which is able to offer service and repair facilities to most makes of cleaning machines and the move to Brackmills eight years ago also enabled the company to open a walk-around cash-and-carry-style supermarket for janitorial supplies, as well as displaying a wide range of cleaning machines and equipment.
The company is the main recognised distributor for Prochem, 3M, Vileda, Ettore window cleaning equipment, ESP paper products and many more trusted brands of cleaning supplies, all delivered locally by Kerstar’s own delivery vehicles.
