Transport giant set to move to new £75m campus

New facility answers logistics company’s need for extra capacity

Logistics firm Eddie Stobart is to expand its road and rail operations at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. It is to move into a new two-unit campus to be built by specialist logistics developer Prologis.

Eddie Stobart has been based at the site since 1997 but will vacate its current premises once the new campus pictured is completed. The £75 million scheme will create two buildings with a total area of 538,000 sq ft, separated by a shared loading yard.

Sally Duggleby, vice president in Prologis UK’s leasing and development team, said: “We have a long relationship with Eddie Stobart and it is brilliant to be enabling them to expand their distribution operations at DIRFT even further. We knew there would be a need for extra capacity and having a plot that is ready to go, with infrastructure in place, means we can move quickly with the construction.”

DIRFT, classed as a nationally significant infrastructure project, is covered by a development consent order and planning decisions at the site are made under delegated powers. This means that planning consent for the new campus was granted in eight weeks.

The terminal is currently hosting around £100 million of infrastructure works and a new rail freight terminal. Ms Duggleby said: “Over the past 12 months we have seen just how important logistics and rail freight has been in supporting the nation and we are extremely proud that Eddie Stobart has chosen to further expand here.”

Eddie Stobart’s new campus is due to be completed by the autumn of next year.
