The reality TV star, also a winner of Celebrity Big Brother, was a keynote speaker at the event, organised to give both current and prospective students a flavour of life and the courses on offer at Northampton College.

He said: “If this event can inspire just one young person to learn new skills and better themselves then it will have been worth it. I’ve been so impressed with the students I have met, they all have extremely bright futures.”

YouTube sensation, lifestyle blogger and former Northampton College student, Megan Gilbride, added: “I have met a host of students full of energy and enthusiasm and coming back to Booth Lane has been a real privilege. It’s a fantastic college and a really impressive campus.”

Hundreds of students took part in 31 separate masterclasses during the event, covering everything from baking cupcakes and fashion styling to mixing music tracks and the engineering that goes into building a state-of-the-art train.

Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing performed at the Skills Fest after party, entertaining the crowds with an hour-long DJ set.

He said: “It was brilliant to see so many young people come out for Skills Fest and I’d urge everyone to work hard and don’t let others stop you from following your dreams.

“Northampton College is a fantastic place to learn, I’ve been really impressed with the staff and students and wish everyone well for the future.”

Also performing at Skills Fest was X Factor girl group Alien Uncovered.

Band member and former Northampton College student, Natalie Kassanga, said: “Having studied Musical Theatre at Booth Lane I know Northampton College well and it was great to be back. The last 12 months have been a whirlwind and as a group we have learnt so much. We’re looking forward to getting in the studio and working on our first album.”
